It seems like a good Girl Scout treat! Mel just told me about using chocolate bars in the center of the banana – did you guys ever do that? Sounds delish!

My dad makes these for the kids when they’re camping, and believe me they would do their own version of the hunger games if there were 1 banana and 5 kids! these are so good! Also we’ve been known to throw a mars bar in the middle and just do it that way. YUM!!!

I can imagine the war over only one banana boat. And YUM to the Mars bar center. I’m definitely trying out that one…. what a great idea!

OH MY GOSH. I LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVE Banana boats. So much. Now I have to have one for dinner. It’s an acceptable meal when you are pregnant, right?

Pfffttt… for a while, spoonfuls of peanut butter (NOT the healthy kind) was an acceptable meal for me whilst I was pregnant. Sometimes I used celery as a spoon, just to health it up a bit! 😉

I can’t believe I haven’t tried one of these before! Definitely remembering this recipe when we’re camping this weekend. Thanks!

Let me know if you try them! They’re so delicious (and less messy than s’mores – though it definitely doesn’t look like it).

Tried them and loved them. Also, last night I made a chicken pot pie in a Dutch oven on the campfire. You should totally get one for next year’s camping season if you don’t already cook with one. They’re amazing!

I’m so glad that you liked them! Did S think that they were awesome!?!?

I have a dutch oven, but it’s a Le Creuset, so I treat it like it’s made of fine china instead of a heavy metal pot. Maybe I’ll get one at the thrift store for the campfire. I’lll have to get that recipe from you!

I know! Isn’t it crazy that I just learned about these? They’re delicious. And I admit that maybe I ate a bit more of them than the girls did! 😉

We used to make these in college at church bonfires. We’d smear with peanut butter, pack in the chocolate chips and marshmallows then drizzle sweetened condensed milk over the whole thing. So good! (I realize I’m late to the party by almost 2 years, but I had to comment.)

I heard about these for the first time last year, right before a family reunion campout. When everyone was dishing up s’mores, my gluten free mom sighed about how she missed s’mores. We had tried s’mores with gluten free graham crackers and they were…..disappointing. I remembered the banana boat thing, and I had one banana left at my campsite, so I whipped one up for her and it was AMAZING. This year we are bringing lots of bananas!

Thanks for the recipe for banana boats. Sometimes for a Scout campout the Scouts will leave the peel on the banana and just slice open the top of it and then stuff in the mini marshmallow, mini chocolate chips and hershey squeeze sauce then put the whole banana in the fire with or without foil. Usually works unless they fill it up too much.
Thanks for the great articles from Riverside Boy Scout Troop
