This looks so awesome Tara! The bench looks brand-new! I’ve seen some similar ones at garden stores and they are so pricy, love it. Amazing transformation!

Thank you so much, Lindsey! It all depends on what you’re doing with what you’ve painted. This bench doesn’t get a ton of traffic, so I haven’t sealed it. But if I was frequently using it, then yes, a sealer would be a good idea.

Hi Tara, I was wondering if the blue finish comes off on your fingers/clothes or if you should paint with the permacoat sealer?

Hi Brittany – you don’t need to put a permacoat onto the patina finish – in fact, the Modern Masters people don’t recommend it. They say that it can alter the look of the finish.

I haven’t noticed any of the finish coming off so far. What surface are you planning on painting? Is it going to be high traffic?

Beautiful! Do you have any tips for sanding down metal? I have as bistro table with lasyers of peeling paint and rust that I would love to make useable.

Carrie – there are a bunch of ways to remove rust – if you’re going to sand the metal, be sure that you’re wearing a mask and gloves before you do it (there will be shards of metal in the air while you sand). Start with a coarse grit and work your way to a fine grit sandpaper.

There are also rust converters/reformers that you can use to stop the spread of rust. If you’ve got a LOT of rust, this is way to cut down the work before you paint your table.

how much paint did you need to paint this bench?
I have a chair I would like to do. This stuff is pricey and I would like to know how much to buy. I don’t think the 2 ounce size kit will work.

Connie – sorry I missed this comment! I didn’t use all that much paint. It’s been a while, but I agree – 2 oz doesn’t seem like enough. However, I barely put a dent in the larger gallon size. Do you think that two kits would be enough?
